Hi Dustin,
Ask her to marry you-with or without a ring. I gave my fiance such a hard time about the engagement ring that I am surprised he asked me to marry him. I was SO superficial, and our love is too important to get in the way of something materialistic. I really LIKE my ring we picked out, but absolutely LOVE him, and that is what counts.
If you still think she needs a ring, and can afford one, go to a pawn shop and get her a gold band-if they can engrave a promise to get her something different in the future, that would be a plus. There is a great pawn shop in Chicago at Wrightwood and Clark, and that is where my fiance bought my engagement ring-we are getting married May 17,2007!

I think its sweet that you want to ask your girlfriend to marry you. But not having a ring wouldnt be a good idea to ask her yet. Having a ring would seal the deal. So best thing to do, is look for rings that you dont have to pay the full amount up front and pay it monthly, you dont have to get the biggest ring ever, there are lots of rings everywhere that are on sale and great price. You can always upgrade later, if you get more money. But I am sure it will be perfect if its coming from the heart. She will love it more and it will mean more if you propose with the ring.
Congrad's!

If you can't afford a ring then you certainly can't afford all the other cost that come with marriage. Just wait until you both are more financially stable. Most marriage problems are caused by lack of money....at least get off on the right foot. Explain this to her now, she will understand. You could go ahead and ask her, if that's what you're concerned about, just tell her the ring and wedding date will have to come later.

I think it is important that a young man be able to pay for a ring and to pay for a honey moon. I is a testimony to your love and commitment. Perhaps your love for her will motivate you to become more creative and find talents in yourself that creates a way for you to be able to afford that ring. Make sure this is not just an excuse right now. And if it is not, at the right time let your love know you want to do this right and stick to your guns. IT is never good to settle for less. Go for the gusto!

Hope you have a great life together. Enjoy the journey.

See if she really wants one. Some women don't. i was very young when I met my husband and made a big deal about what kind of ring I wanted. He didn't propose until several years later and by that point, I kidn of wished I hadn't asked for a ring. I'm not a huge ring person and now I feel obligated to wear it, even though I'd rather just wear my band.

I am sure you can find 50 or 100 dollars - for 50 you can get a silver ring, and for 100 you can get a 10k gold with a small diamond, or other gem. It can be done, if you look around. If she's mature and loves you, she will like any ring along with the proposal from you.

just get some ring and tell her you'll give her a better one when you can afford it.

Just say you want to give her the most beautiful ring in the world for the most beautiful and greatest woman you have ever met.

Just ask her and tell her that you can't afford a ring, but when you have saved up enough the two of you can go and pick out a ring that she would like.

The ring shouldn't be important. If you love her and want to commit to her, then do it!

Maybe you could ask her mom if she would lend you her engagement ring to propose with. Or some families have old rings that have been passed on from grandmothers, etc. Imagine how special it would be if you proposed to her with a ring that already means a lot to her or her family. :)

If you really love each other, then a ring shouldn't really matter. Ask her and get a cheap promise ring until you can afford a real one. Get matching rings to make it a real commitment.
