Does anyone know where I can find plans to loft an existing XL-Twin bed? My campus has a policy that all furniture IN a room must -stay- in the room, so a loft bed has to be able to encorporate the existing XL-Twin bedframe provided by the housing department. I was looking for some ideas for lofting a my bed next year. I found a couple of plans, but nothing seems to be what I'm looking for...

It's totally possible --people do it all of the time when they don't want to rent lofts from school. I just need plans to see -how- they do it.

It is hard to provide you plans for incorporating your existing bedframe into a loft bed without knowing what it looks like. I'm sure it can be done without spending a lot of money. Has anyone else in the dorm done it? If so, follow their plan.

There is lots of information on building loft beds available on the internet. A Yahoo search for "loft bed plans" (include the quotation marks in the Yahoo search box) yields 23,400 results. If you do the same search and are willing to do a little exploring, I'm sure you will quickly find lots of useful and practical information.

Good luck with your loft bed building project.

My son built a loft bed for my grandson. They used a double mattress and made a loft with a ladder going up to it. There is a rail along the outside and at the foot. The far side of the bed and the head at the walls. The ladder is at the foot on the outside. You can make a loft bed any size you want. The biggest thing is that you have to be certain that it is secured well to the wall so that it will not fall with the weight of one or two people. My son also added some supports from the floor to the bottom of the bed.
