For the most part, the old religions didn't have any specific name for their belief system. Most often they referenced themsleves as a follower of a specific deity but with one or two exceptions there wasn't a more general term for the religion. Buddhists as an example had always referred to themselves a such and for centureis the term Brahman has been used by foloowers of HIndu religious belief. In Europe the Druids were really the only ones that had such a term for their religion.

For most, the religion they followed was not soemthing that needed a separate name as it was so much a part of thier life that they didn't need one.

In the early days, it was more of a belief than an organized religous practice. The Egyptians worshipped the sun and belived the Pharaoh was the son of the Sun God.

The oldest religion in the world is Hinduism. Hinduism itself did not start of as a religion. It was a practice and a way of life based on the teachings of the Vedas for the people of ancient India.

The people of ancient India were known as the Indus people by their neighbours on the other side of the Indus river. The techings of the Vedas came to be known as the teachings of the Indus or Hinduism as we know it today.

As far as I know, they referred to themselves as followers of whatever gods they worshipped, such as being a follower of Zeus. I say this because there is a small group of people who still worship the Greek pantheon, and they refer to themselves as Hellenists. If there was an old name for that religion, I'm sure they would adopt it immediately, but there isn't. I'm pretty sure it's the same principle with the Roman gods. There isn't a name given for either of them on Wikipedia (except the Roman Pantheon and the Greek Pantheon).
