My daughter's 8th birthday is coming up and she doesnt want a birthday cake at her party because the icing makes her stomach hurt. I need some other ideas on what we could do instead of a birthday cake.

1. Does she like pie? Maybe she'd like a homeade pie instead.
2. Does she have a favorite cookie? You could make a batch of her favorite cookies and put the dough into a large cake pan. You could even make it heart shaped if she wanted.
3. My mom used to make an ice cream cake. Or, Dairy Queen has good ones.
4. Maybe there is a special sweet treat she always asks you for...like rice crispy treats or "puppy chow" those rice chex with peanut butter and chocolate covered in powdered sugar.
5. Does she like muffins? I have a great recipe for pear muffins - it's found in Williams and Sonoma Muffins book. They also have peach melba and lots of other sweet desserts like coffee cakes.
6. Tiramisu is excellent!
7. Cheesecake with cherries, blackberries or a mix of whatever her favorite fruits are
9. Does she like no bake cookies?
10. Maybe a fruit salad with freshed whipped cream (unless its the milk that's bothering her)
11. If it's the sugar she doesn't like try making an icing with Splenda or Stevia (an all natural sugar)

This Is a No Brain er. Take her out to her favorite place and let her not even think about a cake . IE. Chucky Cheese or another place geared for young children. Just because it is her Birthday doesn't mean all the kids have to eat cake. what is wrong with the house dessert?

Cheesecake, and have several bowls of fruit toppings: cherries, blueberries, strawberries, etc

Fruit Pizza: this is so good and is easy to make, and looks awesome & yummy. Presentation is perfect for a birthday! Here is the recipe I use....

Ingredients
1 (18-ounce) package refrigerated cookie dough
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, room temperature
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract or other flavoring (almond, orange, or lemon)
Fresh blueberries, banana slices, mandarin orange sections, seedless grapes, strawberry halves, kiwifruit (or any other fruit you want), well drained
1/2 cup orange, peach, or apricot preserves
1 tablespoon water

Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line an ungreased 14-inch pizza pan with cookie dough cut in 1/8-inch slices, overlapping slightly. Bake 12 minutes or until light brown; remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.

In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract or other flavoring; spread over cookie crust. Arrange fruit over cream cheese layer in any design you want (use your imagination).

In a small saucepan over very low heat, make a glaze by heating preserves and water. Brush glaze over fruit, making sure to cover the fruit that will turn dark. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Note: This does not keep well, so plan on using it up. You may also use your own sugar cookie recipe in place of the refrigerated dough.

Makes 8 to 10 servings

Make a homemade cake and dust it with powdered sugar instead of frosting it. It will look pretty. Also, a coffee cake with crumb topping is an option.

I heard of this place in the Mall, where the kids design their own bears, and stuff them and dress them. If all the Moms could pay for their own child, it would be a party that she would never forget. Bears work shop. Have ice cream after wards. If that's to expensive, then a pizza party would be great.

How about making a giant cookie. You could put a layer of cookie dough in a pizza pan and cook that. And if she likes fruit you could put a layer of some kind of fruit she likes. Maybe strawberries with strawberry glaze or something. Or if she just likes plain cookies just leave it plain. I hope this helps.

i would definately go for brownies or cookies, plus they're a lot neater than cake when it comes to handing them out. Heres some good recipe ideas:
