OK well everything else works fine, I just got it and I know someone who has the same camera and it doesn't work for them either.

First off, there is no speaker for audio playback on the C533. It records sound (microphone), but the camera has no way of playing it back (speaker). You have to play it back through your TV or computer.

Assuming you knew that, if it's a new camera and has never recorded sound, then perform this op check:
The microphone should be located on the front of the camera, just to the top left of the lens. Begin recording video, then lightly tap the microphone's holes with your fingernail. Then copy the file to your computer, and play back the video. If you hear nothing, then take the camera back to the store and ask for an exchange for a non-defective model.

Also, make sure your finger isn't covering up the microphone while you're recording.

And considering the wonderful quality of the above two answers, I'll be expecting that Best Answer vote here very soon. At least I'm trying to earn my points.

If you are following the instructions, the camera is broken.

If under warranty, have them repair it. Give them a call.

You should get a high end camera from here: http://urlx.org/43d43 I got mine for practically nothing, and it works great!
