Today this morning, around 9, my 6year old dog was running around the back yard playing. But then around 6 this evening she layed down and was breathing really hard, and i thought she was dying! She started trembling, and I got really scared. I couldn't take her to the vets because we're under a level 3 emergency snow warning. Our powers are out and the phone lines dead. What should I do she seems okay now, but she refuses to get up and she's just laying down looking so sad and tired. She's spaid so shes not in heat. I'm really scared WHATS HAPPING?

A level three is for restricting NON-EMERGENCY travel. Go to the nearest available phone or vets office, whichever comes first. Those are signs of a possible heart attack, seizure, and so on. The time frame suggests possible poisoning. Get her help ASAP!!

Blessings

ps How can you be on the computer if you have no power or phone?

The same exact thing... literally.... happened to my sisters 6 year old chocolate lab. She took her to the vet and the problem was something you wouldn't expect.... arthritis. I don't know if your dog has shown signs of it, but it is a possibility. She took the dog to the vet, got some meds, and the dog's been fine. As for now... comfort her and contact a vet to get her in.

Now to provide the scarier part. The same thing happened to my 6 year old Westie. We thought he would be fine so we comforted him overnite... the very sad part is he didn't wake up the next day. My heart was broken. We found out it was a heart defect the did him in but still extrememely heartbreaking as I had the dog since 2nd grade and loved him to death... literally

When my dog had ghardia I had no idea. She threw up one night but I thought she got into some table scraps, and the diareah only made me think the same. Then she was outside playing one minute and laying down looking pathetic the next. She wouldn't get up and she had her stomach tucked up high like it was painful but she's such a trooper she wouldn't even whine when I pushed on it. She went to the vet asap and they examined blood or stool and said what it was. She got some major pills and went home to be lazy on the couch and we had to bring her water to drink like a queen. The next day was 60% better alertness wise and she was up walking cautiously. So take your dog to the vet as soon as you can if you can't find a sprain or cut or other visible injury.

okay, if your under a level 3 snow emergency, could she have frost bite? or be really cold? put some dry kibble down and some WARM water right near her, pet her, calm her down, keep a close eye on her over night and see a vet as soon as the threat level drops.

I'm not a pet expert but it could just be that she was inside to long. Keep a close eye on her if she pukes or has diarrhea i would definitely go to the vet now. I'm not an expert but we've had quite a few dogs.

i agree with the cold possiblity. the running could have been an attempt to warm up.

is there any way you could just call a vet and get info on how to help? it does not have to be an in town vet, just check the phone book.

How long was she out in the snow? if it was for a long time, she could be suffering from exposure. I'd call a vet and see what they suggest.

Just keep her comfortable until tomorrow morning and take her to the vets.

Your dog is scared. She can feel the snow coming and she can feel it. She can probably sense somthing outside that no ones about. Weird I know but yeah.
