Scared of water - i don't think so. I just think that many are not swimmers because of their economic state. You don't find too many pools in the hood. if there were, more black pple would move like fish in water.
Being loud - I agree that many of us are. But I think it has to do with being self expressive. It just gets out of hand when pple are not conscious about where they are being loud.
Chicken - I think lots of pple like chicken. Why do lots of black pple? I wonder whether it has something to do with economic state. I live in a rough hood and the fast food is either KFC, burgers or chicken sandwiches. I tend to eat lots of chicken now over burgers since they have less calories.
The issue is that pple get bugged when you ask quetsions without any history to it. Find out bout blacks and chicken since slavery days. If they were eating lots of chicken even then, then you have a point.
Why do white pple eat lots of caviar? They have had the cash to buy caviar since their days in England. Meanwhile, black pple were working in the fields.
Put things in context.
Also, when you say stereotype, what %age of the population does that apply to? 50%?? 80%?? 99%??

What exactly do you mean "accept?" Accept like as in someone saying to me, a black person, you are loud, you are scared of water, and you enjoy chicken? Not all black people are "scared of water." An african american who had a relaxer would avoid water for obvious reasons but a black person with natural hair or a black man probably wouldn't give a ****. Stereotypes are bad because people are individuals and the reason why people usually get offended is because a lot of stereotypes (especially those given to black people) have a negative connotation. If you have people who have had the same experiences or struggles as you joking around with you about something like that it's fine. But for someone who is basically outside of the loop, you might as well just be calling us trash. I would never ask a white person why they liked caviar or ping pong or why they couldn't dance because it's rude and offensive and it just doesn't make any damn sense. Those thoughts don't run through my mind. People are individuals. Stereotypes don't give you a general idea about ****.

Because it's painting them all with the same brush. They have just as many different views/tastes as other races and often the ones you mentioned are used in a derogatory manner.
I'm a white Southerner from Mississippi and I get a little offended when we're called inbred racist hicks. Some are. Many are not. I'd like to think I fall into the latter category.
White men can't jump....I watched the movie several years ago with a friend and it inspired us to get a game of 21 going. We wound up playing a black guy that was already on the court.....He beat me 21-2 and my friend beat him 21-18 or so....I'm 6'3" and CAN jump...I just can't shoot....and I love chicken.

Don't judge a person only on looks. This will make you seem horribly uneducated. I'm white, hate caviar and ping pong, so obviously your 'stereotype' for me as a white person was wrong.
If you took a Sociology class, you would easily understand America and its past.
Do yourself a favor... read a book.

Stereotypes are bad for a lot of solid reasons....
For example, why don't any of the white people you see on COPS have teeth? Why are all of the White people on COPS living in trailer parks?
If you continue to portray a certain image of a race, others begin to think that that's all they should expect from you as part of that race.... You can NEVER judge an individual based on the actions or perception of many....
Would it be a good thing for everyone who watches COPS to start thinking that all white people live in trailer parks and lack teeth? NO, that would be bad.... (I apologize for using trailer parks as an example, and am guilty of stereotyping myself at this point.... terribly sorry) There are loads of wonderful people who live in trailer parks, with all of their teeth, and as a result of the media portral of just a certain kind of person there, the rest of us might miss that point and generally good people.
The exception might be comedic value... its good to laugh at ourselves and our differences, but before you can laugh at others, you need to be able to laugh at yourself first.
I kinda feel like I didn't really answer anything and maybe upset some people at the same time... hopefully everyone will read into what I wrote a little more than just the black and white print and see what I was attempting to say.

Are you... or were you a child when you asked this? Stereotypes are not true. That why they're called stereotypes and not facts. Why would you accept something that is not true about yourself? Stereotypes do not give "a general idea about something". They take things from a certain person or group and generalize them. For example, just because you see one old lady with a ton of cats, do you believe that all old ladies surround themselves with cats? Knowing you, you'd probably say yes. But it's not true, I know plenty of old ladies (family and friends of family) who don't have a bunch of cats in their house.

Hmm yeah I wonder, my friend likes it when I stereotype black "can dance" but she hates it when I said they're "loud" although for both I think it's just the majority, some black people can't dance and not loud.

A stereotype means that every person of a certain type (race, hair color, etc.) is exactly the same. By enforcing stereotypes, you're saying that people of a certain race can't be individuals. Asking a black person, for example, if they like orange soda is presenting yourself as being stupid and bigoted. It's denying that this particular person is an individual. After a question like that, this person is not able to introduce himself to you as himself but only as a member of a group. By believing stereotypes don't hurt anyone, you're wrong. Whether they are positive or negative, they are denying individuality. You're disgusting.

Are you offended when people think you can't dance or play sports well because you are white? If you are of Polish descent, are you offended when people think you are very unintelligent? If you are blond are you offended when people think you are stupid?
Stereotypes hurt. When these type of things are repeated often enough, people accept them as fact. Then the victims of these stereotypes must spend time and energy proving themselves while others are simply assumed to have reasonable skills and to be intelligent.
