What should I do about a boyfriend who is too elaborate, dramatic, and constantly self-absorbed? (Like today, on Valentine's Day...he went WAY too much over-the-top in a really embarrasing manner in front of my friends.) They are afraid of him now, becaus of all these flowers he gave me... they said, "Did you rob the flower store?" to him. Like, a few roses would have been good enough, but than the stuffed animal comes out...and he knows I don't really like stuffed animals as gifts! They know I am trying to deal with him. He does it to compete with the rich people he knows, who really don't give a s^^t about him. I am more "country" and down-to-earth, and he really upsets a lot of people with his diva-like attitude. I've tried to ignore it, call attention to it, ask him why, and he says he won't be like "that" again, but he finds other ways to have no regard for others. All because he wants people to think he's really important, like always busy and on the go.

I know some people would think these elaborate gestures are sweet, but they are done in a really distasteful, vulgar manner. He loves to cause trouble, stress in the relationship (drama) only to make up with me later, to act like he's a good boyfriend.

Sweetie, why are you still with him? I can see by what you wrote, that you don't need to be, and I think you know that. You have already said he doesn't change. You are country, go find you a good country boy and you won't be disappointed next Valentines Day!

Best of luck to you.

Ugh... This guy`s not right for you. Like you said, you`re the "country" type of person, and you should find someone like that. I mean, after if you decide to break up or anything.

You can`t change him.

He sounds really insecure; if you have repeatedly spoken to him about this, and have seen no appreciable difference in his behavior, then it may be time to break it off. Wait until tommorrow, though--no one deserves to get dumped on Valentines Day. ;0)

I don't think you really care for him...so why are you continuing this relationship? Time to finish it...
