I'm 14 year old guy with severe cystic acne and loads of scars. I've been dealing with this crap for over 3 years and It gets worse every single day, It makes me feel awful and everyone comments on it.

My minocycline antibiotic is pretty much useless, I've tried most products and they don't do anything for my acne, and my doctor might prescribe me up to accutane. Is there any last resorts or home solutions I can do to stop zits and inflammation? I can use without having to use accutane? (because of it's side effects)

I have these questions too,

Does Proactiv really work, or is it just a scam?
Does toothpaste work on zits?
Is there anything I can do about my scars?

Personally proactive made me break out worse because my skin couldn't handle the benzoyl peroxide. Here's what you do: Go to google and do a search for blue light therapy for acne. Find yourself a facial plastic surgeon who has an estetician on staff. DON'T go to the dermatologist. They just keep perscribing you more and more crap that makes your skin worse and worse. I fought that for 2 fricken years before someone referred me to the estethician and I discovered my blue and red lights. I bought them online, the were surprisingly affordable. The blue lights attack the free redicals that cause acne. The red light is healing and prevents inflamation. Antibiotics actually CAUSE acne, not cure it. Sure it is a sort term cure, but in the long run they send free redicals throughout your body which ultimatley create acne and premature aging...

Do not exfoliate your face. Instead find a product such as Glytone, which is made from glycolic and salacylic acid. You should also use a cleanser with those acids. Cleanse briefly. Do not scrub and do not spend a lot of time rubbing the cleanser in. Rinse quickly. Try to let your face air dry. Then apply the glycolic and or salacylic acid as a toner. Then if you can, sit in front of your blue light for 15 minutes followed by 15 on the red light. I never had acne before in my life. Then all of a sudden I broke out with horrid nodules. Using this process, my face cleared up within 2 weeks. I couldn't beleive it. If you can, go to E-Bay and try to buy a small bottle of 30% glycolic acid. If you are able to buy some (this is a professional strength)... Apply it no more than 1 time per week. Using a clean gauze pad or cotton ball, gently rub it across the effected area. Leave it on for NO LONGER than 2 minutes. It might sting or it might just feel tingly like when your foot goes to sleep. Immediatley rinse it off with water to neutralize the acid. Your pimples will dry up and slowly start peeling off over the next few days. Keep cleansing and keep using the Glytone acide, but do no pick. Let it do it's own thing.

BY THE WAY, since glycolic acid peels the skin back, this will also minimize your scars. Once you get your break outs under control, use the glycolic 1-2 times per month and you will notice a remarkable difference...

Proactiv appears to work on people with mild to moderate acne. In your case, your acen sounds severe and I would suggest you get into accutane, it is your last resort, and I heard it works. Do not use toothpaste, it really doesn't do anything. You should worry about your scars After yo get rid of your cystic acne, this would be after your accutane treatment. You will or should be monitored during your accutane treatment because it is basically an overdose of Vitamin A. Accutane is usually taken for only a few months, but it stays in your blood stream and lasts for about a year. You should go to the message boards of www.Acne.org, there you will find people with similar experiences with Acne and how they've treated theirs.

Toothpaste will work in drying out pimples, but only on the odd one. I'm in Australia and a product called Bio - Oil helps with scarring. It's just bought in the shop. I had bad acne and after looking on the net i found two main ingredients used in acne treatments. One was Salistic Acid (found in Clearasil) the other is Benzol hydroxide. I choose the second option as it had better reviews. It worked great! I used it from the chemist in a 5% face wash. You can also get creams and spot gels. It is drying so i also use a SPF15 moisturiser for oily skin and a soap alternative (ask the chemist) Soap is not great for skin as it strips the moister.

That's what causes acne (so I read) You wash your face and strip the oils. Your body then works twice as hard to replace the oils then they all get washed off again creating a vicious cycle.

I have found that Neutrogena really works. Go to this site...

http://neutrogena.com/ProductsDetails_259.asp?lProductLineID=1

I used to have problems when I was younger. Then the acne went away but at about 22 it started to come back. I used that product and it worked great! Plus it's cheaper than ProActiv and you can get it at the store.

For your scars, rub aloe vera on them. It might not get rid of the scars, but at least make them less visible.

Also try not to do things like touch your face and definitely DON'T pick at your zits.

tetracycline worked well on my first onslaught of cystic acne with no harsh side effects except I was sensitive to sunlight. Unfortunately, since you're a guy birth control pills aren't an option and they do work well/ I also found that regular facials worked wonders for my acne and my scarring. See a clinical esthetician he or she may be able to help you.
BTW Proactiv kinda made my face worse, it left an icky film on my face. Acne Free is sold at Walmart and it did a good job for me for a lot cheaper.

Find out a little more about your acne by doing a little research. Acne has many causes, mostly hormonal in adolescense, however there are other causes such as diet and allergies. The website link below has a free ebook for you to read or download or print. It's very informative and not very long. Find out now about what is causing YOUR acne and you can get rid of it for good. I had severe acne and wish I had known about the stuff I read in this ebook.
Do yourself a favor and read it, it's free.

I think the best medicine would be drink alot of water everyday like 2 litres of water per day. Constantly eat large amount of fruit, orange, apple, pear, etc. Don't eat any junk food cos they will cause acne as well.

My friend have used proactiv and she said its pretty good but I never used it myself. Just keep your diet in good shape, don't sleep late at night.
