The villages around Los Angeles are rural and accessible only by donkey cart. There are no highways to speak of and shopping is limited to two stores, Encino Dry Goods and Compton Soul Food Products. Both are closed Wednesdays.
Scheduled flights into Los Angeles are few and far between due to the winter type weather. God help you if you need a Doctor.

Previous posters are right.
You'll love the weather and the girls/boy go crazy for the accent. (How old are you? I'd love to meet you!)
However, the cost of living is obscene, insurance sucks, traffic is worse, and you may have trouble finding a job with a decent wage unless you have the education/experience.
My boss is from Australia, and insurance is the only thing he complains about. (Beside my work habits, that is.)
There are an awful lot of ex-pats here, so it can't be all bad. However, you may find you want to go home again some day.

Huge difference! Weather is different, Southern Californians are different from any other americans, don't fall prey to idiots. Lots of nutty people here wanting to be famous. Everyone wants to be in the movies I mean everyone. I am sure your dad will help you through it. Westwood is a great place to hang out. nice kids.

Ye Old King's Head in Santa Monica has English goodies for the ex-pats. But you would probably love Santa Monica because of its Promenade and all the young people out enjoying themselves. Movie theaters, shops, etc.

Well it will be much warmer! You will need a whole new set of clothing thats for sure. Are you still school aged? if so make sure your dad lives in a safe area with a good school district. My guess is that that will influence your experience more than anything else.

You are young so you will like it. The weather and culture will be different and the place not as pretty but you'll adjust because the girls are all pretty and they'll love your accent. If you are cute you will have it made. Enjoy!

Stay in England.
No matter what you hear about the great US of A, I can guarantee you have it better there than we do here.
I have lived in England, Manchester to be exact, and I have to tell you. I never worked for better pay, benefits, and time off than I did there.
here you are lucky to find a job that pays 8 dollars an hour, and maybe gives you 2 weeks off a year, and might, just might, pay for HALF of your medical insurance. Then there is still deductibles and co-pays. Imagine all that.
England is FAR better than USA. I know your dad lives here and you must miss him something awful, but stay there.
