You will need suntan lotion! You are much closer to the equator than before and the air is very dry, so you'll need to pay attention to the UV index, which is posted in the weather report every day. It's the best this time of year, moderate temperature, low smog levels and good views of the mountains.
You'll want to go to the beaches! They're just a great place to relax.
But there are many neighborhoods; ask about the specific one you're moving into for expert advice. I used to live in Fountain Valley, near Huntington Beach, and it was a very nice place to live. But a kilometer away there's Santa Ana, where you need to be careful of yourself.
Welcome!

Previous posters are right. You'll love the weather and the girls/boy go crazy for the accent. (How old are you? I'd love to meet you!) However, the cost of living is obscene, insurance sucks, traffic is worse, and you may have trouble finding a job with a decent wage unless you have the education/experience. My boss is from Australia, and insurance is the only thing he complains about. (Beside my work habits, that is.) There are an awful lot of ex-pats here, so it can't be all bad. However, you may find you want to go home again some day.

Im moving from NW England to Kentucky USA when I get my fiance visa. Anways have you been to America before? Have you been arrested it not I would advise you to travel on he visa waiver scheme and visit for a few weeks to see what its like. If you have been before nothing wrong with giving it another trial. I know I can't wait to I move.

I live in Southern California and I love it here, but some areas are better than others and you did not say where, it is a big state.
Anyway, Lucky You!

Wow. You're in for a culture shock.
Don't worry about bringing too many clothes, most of what you have probably isn't "cool". It's very cliquish there, very style/fashion-conscious. Overall, some people like it there, and I think younger people (teens-twenties) like it more than others.
It has its good points, but in my book, those aren't too many. You might find it to be a lot of fun and very exciting, but it will be different.
