I got my left ear cartilage pierced about 3 months ago and it was doing fine. But a few weeks ago it started to get all crusty. I changed the ring and cleaned it but it 's still sore. It's also been bleeding. I'm worried but really don't want to have to go to the doctor.

Go to the doctor anyway before you develop a larger problem. Infections can spread through your system. Keep the area clean and buy over the counter Betadine and clean the wound--if you are not allergic to iodine or Betadine. Apply (if not allergic) neosporin and keep the area clean and dressed. Some times infections have to be debrided--cut out, so go and have it checked.

If it's sore and there's pus coming out of it (the crusty stuff), you really need to go to the doctor. If you want to give it a little time before then, start cleaning it with unscented Dial antibacterial soap and rinsing it with warm water and natural sea salt at least twice a day. It could be related to the weather and if it is, that should clear it up. If it doesn't get better within 3 days, go to the doctor.

I wouldn't necessarily go straight to the doctor, if you're that worried about it I would call the place where you got it pierced at and ask them. I used to work at a place where I pierced ear and cartilage piercings will be sore way after you get them pierced. Just call the place before you waste your money to hear that you need to clean it with soap, if ya get what I'm saying.
