The ace of aces was Erich Hartmann with 352 aerial kill. He flew an Me-109, mostly on the Easter front.

The Germans had a policy of "fly till you die", while the allies, esp the americans rotated their pilots out after so many missions.

Erich Hartmann of the Luftwaffe in World War II. He shot down 352 enemy planes, primarily all Russian. Commander of the New Luftwaffe after the war.

The first answer is talking about Douglas Barder , but he is not even close , the top scoring ace was Hartmann
