Why do so many people insist that terminally ill people should suffer every agonizing moment until death finally ends their ordeal? It would seem to me that anyone with a shred of compassion would welcome a quick end for such a person, if he or she freely chose that option.

My question comes from the experiences I had watching a relative die slowly, agonizingly, and horribly while in the final throes of a terminal illness. Until you've seen it, you have no idea what it's like.

You are so right. We find it compassionate to euthanize our animals when they are dying, but some say it's a sin to do the same to humans, and I see no sense in this argument. I would take matters into my own hands, you bet. I do freely choose that option, and am saving up for a kilo.

Ending a life is somewhat permanent and the decision cannot be undone. This is why it is such a drastic and important issue and certainly to be discussed thoroughly before anyone embarks on such a course.

Many people are actually very concerned about terminally ill people and their suffering. They in fact insist on trying to find a good balance between pain relief and side effects.

My life was saved, I felt what death was like. I know was a chronic disease is and don't see how healthy people can relate. When I am at my worst, I know that the stupid things people say ("it will get better", no it wont) are ment in love. I have to take that view looking at the elderly in hospice. However they will die. It is enevitable. They wont make it to the next big breakthrough. I truely feel they are more wize and can decide to end their life if their mind id able to make the decision (not senile or affected by the disease or meds) Not only that but when we break it down to the basicss it is someone withholding the rights of others, even if it is to 'protect' them.

Upon discovering their terminal illness, the patient should be given the following three options;- to get treated, to do nothing, or to leave this world gracefully before they start screaming, bleeding, and throwing up all over the place.

For myself, there is no question. I would definitely take matters into my own hands; however, there is my family to consider. What would death at my own hands mean to them? I have no fear of death but I would not do anything to hurt my family or give them long lasting memories of a self inflicted death.
