I have solar electric panels in my back yard. They are hooked up to 9 large batteries and provide power when the electricy is off. Or I can just turn off the city electric and run my stuff right from the solar backup system. Some times I will have a 20 dollar electric bill and one time last at the start of last summer I had a zero dollar electric bill.

Then there is deal that my coffee pot still works in the mornings after an ice storm. My lights stay on at night when the rest of the area is blacked out from the ice pulling the power lines down. And they are loading up to try to go to someone elses house because they don't have any power for a week at a time.

So Yes I would use them and yes I do use them. It makes me wonder why everyone don't have a solar backup electric system and a fire place or gas heating.

We do use solar panels. For our pool. We have the panels set up in the backyard where the pool water flows through and gets heated and then returns to the pool. It is a lot cheaper than having a high power bill for heating a pool and it also extends the time we can swim because the water stays warm til about November.

Free energy and plus the extra Electricity you make you can sell back to the Grid. So Yes of Course I would get Solar Panels it would just have to fit my Budget or be able to pay themselves off in savings.

Yes, if I could afford them. Since I can't at this time, I am checking into passive solar and thinking of doing a few minor alterations to my existing home to take advantage of the sunlight.
The sun can be used to heat water, to heat a greenhouse, you can build a trombe wall or sun closet, etc. These are ways to make use of solar without the expensive solar panels.

The main reasons I am interested in this is to reduce my heating bill, because solar heat is clean, and because I can be more in control of my space and what goes into it.

I would use them. I live in Alaska and in the winter there isnt enough sun to generate enough electricity to run your house, for example. I would still keep standard electricity as a backup.
