So, if I bake a potato, I can eat two or three max. If I mash them, I can consume about six or seven. If I fry them, I can eat about eight or nine. Then, the kicker is: if I make them into a potato salad with onions, eggs, mayonnaise and all sorts of other stuff added to them, I can eat about ten to fourteen of them. How is this possible?

I guess it's a psychological thing. If you were to just bake the potato and eat it, you would be counting the number of potatoes you eat, and feel that it's too much. However, if you mashed it or fry them, you don't see the actual 1 potato. With no quantitative measure, your mind gets fooled.
