A friend was talking to a nurse when the nurse said that HFCS coated your stomach in a chemical that stops you from knowing when you are full, so people just eat and eat. This made sense to me, because when I ate some yoplait yogurt with high fructos corn syrup, I was really hungry a few moments later. I devoured a lot of food before I realized that it wasn't going to stop, so I just stopped eating for a while and drank a lot of water, and I returned to normal. During that same time I felt grumpy, tired, and irritable, when I was happy before eating the yogurt.

So what are the real facts about HFCS?

It is one of the simplest of carbohydrates. Simple carbs get absorbed into the blood very quickly causing a spike in blood sugar. A release of insulin then causes an abrupt drop causing fatigue, crankiness, and hunger. Eat complex carbs so your blood sugar recieves steady, slow release energy. You will feel much better.

the following is an excerpt from Winkipedia
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) refers to a group of corn syrups which have undergone enzymatic processing in order to increase their fructose content and are then mixed with pure corn syrup (100% glucose) to reach their final form. The typical types of HFCS are: HFCS 90 (most commonly used in baked goods) which is approximately 90% fructose and 10% glucose; HFCS 55 (most commonly used in soft drinks) which is approximately 55% fructose and 45% glucose; and HFCS 42 (most commonly used in sports drinks) which is approximately 42% fructose and 58% glucose.

High fructose corn syrup is basically sugar syrup. It has a lot of calories and a lot of simple carbohydrates.

The simple carbohydrates is why you get hungry right away. Complex carbs and protein fill you up, not sugar.

fructose is the stuff that makes fruit sweet basicly fruit sugar. but it doesnt have the good stuff that fruit has for you. it is bad for you in that it is full of empty carbs and no nutrition and like your nurse friend said alot of people that make food put it in there to basicaly addict you so you buy more, kind of like cigarettes have nicotine. not sure why it made you cranky though

Since it is sugary and what not it makes you grumpy, kind of when you have a bunch of sugar and your sugar rush just came to an end.
