Could be a viral infection. Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Start gargling with very warm salt water every half hour and your throat will feel better. If you don't have a temp it probably isn't strep, just a sore throat. And get some orange juice and drink a lot of it.

Could still be strep. It doesn't have to be in the class for you to catch it. Maybe someone with strep touched a doorknob, copy machine button, light switch, pencil, pen, etc.. that you touched. Look for white patches on the back of your throat.

Could be sinus drainage going down the back of your throat. Watch for any color in the mucus as that is a sign of infection. I'd start with a good antihistamine/decongestant and lozenges. I also enjoy sipping a hot cup of tea to cut that mucus coating in my throat.

Most sore throats are NOT strep infections. But they may still be infections.

You KNOW the answer to your question.

Could be the early signs of an ordinary cold coming up
When I get this early warning sign I usually gargle with a half a shot of either whiskey or vodka ------ I know it seems odd but it really does work. Notice i said gargle not drink !!

Try it a few times ( not at work ) lol

I would look towards having to breathe harmul irritants in myh car or room or wherever I am when the irritation began.
I get it from fingernail polish, permed hair, deisel fuel from buses etc. An exhaust leak in a car will hurt your throat.

something is definitely going around, just in case gargle with warm water and salt and keep some halls in your desk, I would suggest if it worsens to call you DR. and check your throat for white spots (sign of strep) good luck... ouch
