I'm looking for white tiles that can be hand-painted for a custom look. I understand that this can't be done with the commonly available ones from Lowe's or Home Depot because they're already glazed.

Does anyone know where you can get unglazed ones - and what the best way to paint tiles is?

Hmm shopping for bisque tiles at the site posted by Lance sounds like a good idea.

What do you say about asking Yahoo to have an arts and crafts section with ceramics?

try amaco (american art clay company) (800) 374-1600 (toll-free)

you could glaze them with underglazes and then add a transparent glaze over the underglaze...however this method would require firing in a kiln...otherwise, i would suggest using acrylic paints and spraying them with a ceramic sealer or non-yellowing polyurethane spray...the second method doesn't require firing in the kiln...

have fun!
