You likely have no biznezz even asking this question. If you were a professional tattoo artist, you already know that ink manufacturers put enough alcohol, etc. into their inks to retard bacterial growth. You would also know what to use to make a wash, etc. Old skool artists used listerine when mixing their own powders and some still do.

Edit notes to Deb - LMAO! When I first read flux, I was thinking, "Wait, what did I miss in this question? HAHAHA...you crack me up!!"

Why use alcohol!!?!?!? Use Flux. its a mixture of hcl and sulphuric acid, MUCH BETTER for what you need. might sting a little more than expected but its a tattoo so you should expect that. At least when its finished scarring over oyu wont have to worry about getting it removed, and it will definately be there permanently.

(Im sure all the other artist in here who know anything about needle making can chuckle at this!)

As a long time professional tattoo artist my advice is to use the industry standard for mixing down tattoo ink (to get lighter shades): Listerine. It is preferred to water as it is antiseptic and doesn't sting or dry out the skin like alcohol.

Probably not a good idea, my husband got a drunken tattoo by Chris Garver last year in a bar in Texas...and chris dumped corona into the ink....the tattoo is tiny about the size of a dime, and took about 4 months to heal....so i wouldnt recommend it!!
