What research did you do prior to getting a Malamute?
I'm asking because the Malamute breed is known for its independence and making its own decisions - they like to roam and do their own thing if they are given the chance. They are also known to have a high prey drive, so it's not surprising that your dog killed goats while he was roaming.
The only way you can trust any dog, particularly an independent and intelligent breed like the Malamute, to "run free" on your property is going to be putting a fence around your property, or around part of your property, and allow your dog to stay only within the fenced area.
There's a certain amount of boundary training you can do - however, the breed's traits and character are probably going to lead your dog to simply ignore that training if there are other things to be done and you're not supervising.

I really get annoyed with people like you.Put a fence up around atleast a acre of your property.Or build him in a large pen.Where I live there is dogs roaming all over. They was tearing up my property and attacking my animals. Not sure what goes on in your neighborhood but where I live at if a dog gets anyones farm animal the owner of the farm animal will shoot and dig a whole and put your dog in it then proudly tell you what he/she has done to your dog.For the dogs sake either fence it or build a large pen.

I could never get any of my dogs to stay in the yard...only when I was out there supervising them. Malamute are independant thinkers and downright stubborn, so if you dont keep an eye on him, he's probably going to ignore you and run off.
Invest in a nice high, sturdy fence. You'll still retain the run free feeling...without the running completely free.

Malimu eh? never heard of the breed. He's a working dog and he's probably bored. Give him a job. Get him a backpack, fill it with weights (filled water bottles work) and let him burn some energy outside "his" territory. You wouldn't want to be confined to your yard/house all the time would you? When you are home leash him to your belt loop and do what you do in the house/around the yard, so he bonds with you and gets used to sticking close. I bet the invisible fence won't work. He'll probably just ignore it and keep on going.

Cut off his legs. Come on I'm just kidding (although it does sound like you did cut off his fifth leg recently). Get one of those invisible fences. He wears a collar and when he passes a certain point it beeps. After the beep it gives him one hell of a shock. They install it and give him a brief training. A friend of mine has one and it works great.

Make sure your dog KNOWS that it is NOT good for him to be there. Don't abuse him, but look him in the eye and point your finger at him. Also make sure he's looking at you when you do this, so he'll take you seriously. But whenever he's around the house, be sure to smile and pat him, letting him know it's okay. HIH!!
