Boy, will he break some hearts someday......Down the line somewhere, there is a realtive who had blue eyes--most likely a caucasian person. I would say at least 2 generations back, since his skin is a nice even brown. My husband and I both have brown eyes and dark hair, but our youngest daughter has beautiful blue eyes and blonde hair. Genes from our ancestors are still a part of us. There are some children who are born to caucasian parents, but are born with darker pigmented skin--somewhere in the past, a black or brown skinned person was a part of the mix. We are all who and what we are, and we are all beautiful in our own right.

A little known fact of American and Carribean history is probably at fault here. In the early period of the colonization effort by Great Britain, France and Spain-Europeans were kept as slaves. They were usually Prisoners of War. For the United States this was failry common practice in Georgia, North/South Carolina, Alabama and a bit of Virginia. The slaves here were orginally Celts-Scots, Irish and Welsh. When the Dutch brought over the first cargo of African slaves, they were housed with the Celtic slaves with predictable results. They intermarried and reproduced. Some stayed slaves and some got away and became free. Either way the people from this region are most likely to be a descendant of this practice. This is one reason as to why African-Americans from these states, with a Celtic surname, are most likely not to possess a slave name, but their real surname. I am a Convener for a Scottish Highland Clan and we have as members, descendents from these areas. They are every bit a full member of the clan as any white and are welcomed just the same. There are also DNA tests that can be done and can confirm or deny this story for a particular person. Considering that blue eyes are a recessive gene, it is likely that both parents have this or a similiar genetic heritage. I would get a DNA check done and see what comes up. I would suggest www.familytree.com for the testing as they have a pretty complete system in place and are one of the labortories working on the National Geographic DNA project. Cost is about $100. Good luck in this endeavor-if it comes out Celt, be sure to check out your clan. You would be very welcome.

You don't have to inherit everything from your parents, You could inherit something from your Great Grand or maybe 10 generations ago. Gene is a very funny thing. Your brother or sister might be of darker complexion with brown eyes but you came out with a lighter complexion and lighter eyes. It is all in the Genes of our fore fathers. Another thing, If you go any where in the world right now, Almost everyone is of mixed race.

Their parents might be carrying some of the gene in which you lose pigment for the eye and that's why people have blue eyes or green eyes. It's not odd it's just a significant.

recessive gene. Both parents are African American, but, not purely African in blood. Somewhere there is mixed blood. There are no pure races anymore. He's a beautiful child.

It is the manifestation of a recessive gene present from a caucasian parent somewhere up the line.
