I had admission by a canadian university in 2004 to study IT at M.Sc level. After all set and done, I was refused visa. I came to understand that it was for the fact that I am black.

I doubt race would be the reason why Nigerians are denied visas most of the time. You have to look at three factors in understanding why U.S. and Canadian immigration authorities would take a Nigerian application seriously:

(1) Largest population in Africa. Great disparity of wealth. Highly likely to overstay their visa in an affluent nation such as the U.S. or Canada. Hence, the possibility of illegal immigration can be a negative factor in denying a Nigerian citizen a visa.

(2) Large Muslim population--Post 9/11 and the planned attacks on Toronto, this is an adverse factor.

(3) The rise of militant groups in the Niger Delta region. These groups have kidnapped many foreigners (recently 21 Filipino workers were abducted). Nigeria has large oil reserves and U.S. and Canadian officials worry that members of these militant groups will try to infiltrate their nations and plan attacks, especially with the large presence of American and Canadian oil companies in their region.

Every single person in West Africa who receives a US or Canadian visa - and there are hundreds or thousands every day - is "black." Do you really think that professional diplomats have nothing more interesting to do that volunteer for work among people they dislike, so they can exercise your made-up racial prejudices?

You didn't get a visa because the consular officer was not convinced that you would go home once your education was completed. Period.

In canada? i don't think it was race , not with african - american babies as the highest demanded adoption in canada. No if it was discrimination it was because Nigeria is majority muslim and after the attempted bombing of toronto the canucks are probably a little prejudice.
