Box815 needs to take a few minutes before answering questions here....otherwise someone like me comes along and makes him look foolish.

Every state has a statute of limitations law. See the link below for info on your state.

It does NOT mean the collection agent can not continue to try and collect. It means that they can no longer sue you in court, or take any legal action to recover the debt. In otherword, they are all bark and no bite.

To stop their barking, simple send them a "cease and desist" letter. Once the receive it, if they continue to call or contact you, you can sue them for violating the Fair Debt Collections Act for $1000.

Sweet!

in case you owe the money, you owe the money. in the adventure that they could instruct sensible attempt (ie. a letter, bill or telephone call) in gathering the money over the years than no statute of llimitations exists. i'm no longer particular that statute of obstacles is even accliapable for debt or all and sundry might want to be doing this.

What I have heard is that debt that has gone unpaid for seven years is expunged from your credit report. I am not sure if the debt is still owed or not.

Statute of limitations applies to criminal law, not to debt which is a civil matter.

You still owe the money.
