pros
-having a beautiful wedding somewhere new and great
-having a vacation at the same time
-the reception part is the hardest to plan, so its nice to have it close with all your friends, and still have that great wedding somehwere different
cons
-not having everyone come to the far away wedding to far for some to travel or cost too much
Theres really not much bad things about it, just make sure everyone knows a head when the reception will be taking place.

I also don't see why it isn't okay. I think it is perfectly acceptable to hold an intimate ceremony and then have a larger reception afterwards to celebrate. I mean you are still inviting people to the "expensive" part of the wedding, where you will be paying for their meal and drinks and be providing them with a dancefloor and DJ all night... The only way I can see it being rude is if you were asking someone to not come to the reception until after the dinner -- which would be very poor etiquette. Other then that, I think that a private ceremony and big reception is acceptable in every way. Unless of course you were having them on different days months apart -- at which point wearing your wedding dress, or even having the reception would be tacky.

destination you run the risk of certain people you really care about not being able to make it. Also there are many un for seen costs and its harder to plan a wedding from the far away. Also my friend just did destination and now is having to fight the resort to get her marriage liscense and photos. Pros built in honey moon. Wedding in a beutiful location and a great memory of the tiem you spent with family and firends

My feelings on this are all con:
I don't get invited to share the joy of your vows, but you want me to spend money on you for a gift?
In my mind, the reception is about a party, yes, but more about giving the new couple a gift to celebrate the joy you were invited to be a part of. Also, the at-home reception after a destination wedding tends to be not as...lavish, shall we say, as a "normal" reception. I don't feel like forking over $100 (which is a "normal" gift) for a back-home BBQ.

PROS: there would be beautiful scenery, and it would make it very special!
CONS: people you really love might not be able to make a destination wedding.
(but have fun with it!)
