Close friends and family, I ask them to remove their shoes. If it's someone whom has never been to my home before, or is not someone I would consider a family/friend, or if it's someone I'm trying to make a good impression on, i don't. I let them keep their shoes on. But, I usually don't have many people like that over. So, yes, people usually know to take their shoes off when they come into my home.
Personally, I don't get offended when I'm asked to do that same. I also make sure I have nice, clean and matched socks on when I know I'm going to someones home.

Yes. I personally don't wear shoes in my house, but, I'd never force someone else to take their's off, as they may have a medical condition or an insecurity problem.

I'm a full-time barefooter and I don't like people telling me what I should or shouldn't wear on my feet, I would NEVER tell anyone else that they either have to wear shoes or have to take them off!
Only when they'd be wearing *extremely* muddy shoes or boots I'd ask them to take them off, but it'd be the mud I'd object to, not the footwear. If they'd rather rinse their footwear at the outdoor hose, that'd be fine too.

No. In my house everyone has to take off their shoes before they are allowed to come inside. It is dirty to wear shoes inside especially with light colored flooring. I didn't always have a shoes off rule. It wasn't until we moved into our new house with white carpeting not my choice. I started the shoes off rule and will never go back. The house stays so much cleaner and is comfortable. Most of my family and regular friends know that the shoes off rule is in effect and take their shoes before I answer the door.
I used to ask people to take their shoes off but recently purchased a nice sign that hangs just outside our front door. It says "Stocking feet only please" It is placed above the pile of shoes that is on our porch. I had one of my kids parents come today and she saw the sign and took her shoes off. When I opened the door I thanked her for taking her shoes off. She said that she doesn't mind as most people she visits have the rule. She said she is even thinking of starting the rule in her home when her floors are installed. Actually several people that started visiting me on a regular basis have adopted the rule in their homes as well. Whenever I go to someone elses house I take my shoes off, I feel that I should behave in their home the way I expect them to in mine.

No, i do not delight in travellers leaving their shoes on even as stepping into my homestead, and that i do no longer placed on my highway shoes in different houses both. I continuously deliver a posh pair of indoor delicate soled shoes that look large and pass with each and every thing. although, i do no longer ask human beings to get rid of their shoes in the adventure that they do no longer chosen to attain this.

Yes I do.When the carpet was new I made everyone take their shoes off. After a few weeks I got sick of saying it,it was also impractical because I have four kids constantly in and out.Next time I'll go for a dirt coloured carpet with a crumb coloured pattern!

In the summer its ok. But if the weather is bad, like snow or rain, I ask people to remove their shoes. The only exceptions are my parents, or any other elderly person.
