Go to:

↓ Control Panel
↓ Sounds, Speech and Audio
↓ Click adjust volume control
↓ Ensure mute is remove
↓ All setting are on high
↓ Go to speaker volumes
↓ Change all slides to high

Should resolve the problem.

Hmmm... the problem could be that your Windows Audio Service has failed or stopped running.

Go to Start and then Run. Then type "Services.msc" . Then, scroll down until you see Windows Audio. Left-click on "Windows Audio" to select it and right-click and choose "start" if it has stopped running.

Although, I strongly suspect your sound card drivers are misbehaving badly.

About disc recovery: you might want to backup ALL your important data first before you run that disc. Otherwise, you could lose a lot of data since it's very likely the cd will wipe your hard drive.

Anyways, since you don't seem to know much about computers, you're better off posting at some forum like http://www.geekstogo.com or http://www.opentechsupport.net/ so the people there can guide you step-by-step.
