Would I be right in thinking the US is still affraid of Russia, and always will be. They are a country that has stood up against you, threatened your existance and still thinks of you as a " friendly enemy " even now. They are more than capable of holding their own against you and no doubt still keep checks on the US from time to time. Theres even talk of a new cold war begining.

Personally I think Russia would prefere a conventional war instead of another cold war as the last one put them in state. They are a little crazy in conventional war.

How do you feel about them. Please explain in more than the odd word if you can. Am quite interested to here your opinions. Thanks

Why am I getting slagged off?

You were affraid of the USSR at one time, hence the Cold War. Your government was at least, many of them. Russia were the biggest threat to you.

No wonder nobody likes you Americans. You slag me off because I ask a question that has some relivence seeing as it was mentioned on both BBC and SKY news. I have never watch fox news, I dont believe its going to happen I just wanted some opinions and I get a fair amount of abuse. Now believe me, the US has no right to slag anyone off.

By the way BBC and Sky news are a lot better news channels than those in the US. Neither is politically biased

I don't think we are afraid of them. I feel we are... guarded, against them.

Yeah, I'm sure both sides have kept up their spying on the other. Were both Nuclear powers, we would be morons not to keep tabs on each other.

I haven't seen Russia in any Wartime operations in a long while... so I'm not too sure how their Military would stand up against the American Military. Seeing how our Military fights and kills/gets killed by the enemy, I know how we operate. Not being able to see Russians in action... who knows if their equipment is still old or if they have upgraded a lot of it.

If there is a new Cold War brewing... I don't see it with the U.S. and Russia. I see it with the U.S. and the countries that are trying to develop their Nuclear program and may not be too nice with it if/when they get that technology.

Despite the slight incoherence of your diatribe and lack of skills in your native language, I'd like to offer a few comments.

The UK has been afraid of Russia since at least the time of Peter the Great. Aside from the few occasions when they were allies, the Brits have been pi**ing their pants over the idea of Russian power for a long time. But wait, I thought you knew that already?

USA afraid of Russia? Sure, maybe over the course of 40 years or so; they certainly used it as an excuse to build and maintain a vast military-industrial complex. But, hmmm, I think the Commonwealth and other NATO members did something similar?

Personally, I like Russians. I think they're a great people. I'm not sure if they've figured out how to make a stable and corruption-free society, but I guess we all have our own destinies to work out.

I don't get the feeling that most Americans think too much about Russia anymore. But like most sheep, they're always ready to be whipped into a frenzy by the latest demagogue.

BTW, I do love to watch the occasional Parliamentary debate, much more entertaining for a fan of rhetoric and debate than listening to the dull-witted things here in the House and Senate. Keep up the good work.

Zdratsvuytya! Kak vuy pushovuyietie! Horoshoa?
The U.S. WAS NEVER afraid the Russian military. Look at their military now. The gov't in Russian can't even meet their payroll, their weapons are second rate, their navy is in disarray and is a joke, their subs are rusting in the north, their equipment is needing repair and parts are hard to come by. What a pathetic excuse for a military that would SHOOT unarmed civilians trying to GET OUT of the Soviet Union. Those aren't MEN they are sick, twisted homicidal maniacs. Could you imagine the repercussions if the U.S. military shot people going to CANADA or MEXICO? In the Afghan/Soviet Union war, they would arm TOYS that would blow up when CHILDREN picked them up. But did you hear the BLEEDING HEART LIBERALS demanding the Soviet Union STOP that? NOPE. But let American soldiers put PANTIES on a TERRORIST PRISONER'S head and it's KATY BAR THE DOOR! Or let some goofy soldiers pull some FRESHMAN COLLEGE PRANKS and make some TERRORIST prisoners build a pyramid made up of NAKED IRAQI PRISONERS, and THAT'S TORTURE!! AHAHAH
RUSSIA as a worthy opponent. GAG! What a laugh!
As for NO ONE LIKES YOU AMERICANS...it's called JEALOUSY. Those that 'hate' America are jealous of our freedoms and the opportunities afforded us. If America is so terrible and people hate us so much, why have so many died and are STILL dying trying to get INTO America. How many Americans RUN AWAY from America to HAVE A BETTER LIFE for them and their families? Care to answer THAT?
I bet you even think all the phone numbers in America start with 555.

No, most people don't worry too much. For every one Russian keeping tabs on the US I'm sure there are ten Americans watching Russia. Also Russia is a popular tourist destination now. And in conventional war Russia is pretty low on the list of countries that we will be fighting anytime soon.

Maybe no one responds because they the question not a honest one but a question that is loaded.
It's not ignoring you, but it's very similar to your girlfriend asking you "does this make my butt look big?" Best not answer that one.

No America in general is not afraid of Russia because we have other concerns at the moment, and frankly I feel the American government is looking for another Cold War because when the Soviets were in power, the US government could get away with allot in the name of "national security" and scare the public as a means to write unconstitutional laws. I think that is where the modern Muslim terrorists step in.

All these WW3 conspiracy theories are worse the the rhetoric of all the republicans.

No, Russia isnt the same Russia it was in the cold war. Its a democracy now knuckle head.

And china. We owe them so much money and are paying them a hefty chunk of interest that it goes against their best interest to bump heads with us.

Anyone else, doesnt have the fire power, or any reason to go toe to toe with us. Iran and Venezuela Iran and North Korea.
They are not stable enough to be considered a true threat .. just yet!

So stop watching FOX news people.
World War 3 is not upon us!!!
FOX only wants you to think it is

You must be kidding right? We aren't afraid of Russia. Why would you even for a minute think that? You said "there's even talk of a new cold war beginning" - what did they talk to you? Call you personally and tell you hey, we're thinking of starting a cold war, what do you think? This question is more funny than anything.

i am not afraid of russia in it's current state. russia's conventional military is in shambles. in a conventional war the us would clearly win.

however, given the cost of oil right now russia finds itself in a position of power. russia can deny access to their oil which would hurt the economies of nations that buy russian oil. this in turn would have a ripple affect which could reach the us.

what i am afraid of is russia using their oil resources as a bargaining tool against europe.

but oil is a rocky commodity and i have a feeling that prices will start to drop and russia will find itself without it's current position of power.

now a nuclear war...that is different. russia still has a lot of nukes. fortunately most of the nuclear nations understand how terrible nukes are and how nuclear war would benefit no one.

Well, I know Russia couldn't defeat the Taliban in 10 years of war. The americans almost wiped them off the face of the planet in about a month. The few that remain are playing cat and mouse along the borders with Pakistan. If you ask me, that's pretty embarrasing to Russia. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not afraid of them. Actually, it would be on my list of places to travel in the world before I die.

Russia today is not the former USSR. They were a very powerful nation and had the attention of the whole world. The financed and backed every communist government on earth. Today they are a nation in turmoil that is barley able to protect themselves let alone fight a war.
