Where I grew up, forking was common in the late fall. They would come by in the late evening and stick plastic forks in the yard of someone and then the ground would get hard (b/c of the falling temperatures). When the person tried to take them out, they'd break off into the ground and cause all kinds of trouble for the lawn mower in the spring.

I don't know for sure in your case, but I've heard of youth groups "forking" a yard. They stick plastic forks in the yard, and write encouraging notes on index cards that they stick in the tines of the fork.

They will come a stick many forks in your yard, which will destroy a lawnmower if you even miss one when cleaning up. I would stay up and watch over my house if i were you.

I have never heard of this before. But after reading some of the other answers, that is awful.
