You got someone who was unhappy to take drugs? That's sad. Why didn't you get her to make something out of her life and accomplish goals, eat a healthy diet, exercise, volunteer to help others less fortunate, get involved in fun activities, and enjoy life? So now she's becoming addicted to dangerous drugs and is still unhappy-- I guess your idea didn't work.

Lexapro's Side Effects include:
* lethargy
* apathy
* generally not giving a damn

How Long Lexapro Takes to Work: Lexapro starts to work anywhere from a couple days to over a month, but many who have tried other SSRIs report that Lexapro kicks in faster than the competition, with about one to two weeks being reported frequently.

These drugs are for MAJOR depressive disorders, not an unhappy girlfriend!

Yes, it does take a while, sometimes 6-8 weeks. If there is still no change, she may need a higher dosage. I'm more concerned about other things:
1) Did you know once you start Lexapro, you should take it for the rest of your life?
2) She shows no change....but does she 'feel' a change - that's more her call than yours

It can take 6-8 weeks for a real change to occur with antidepressants. But if she isn't showing any signs of improvement this may not be the medication for her or her symptoms may have not be properly diagnosed.

It takes more than drugs to make a person happy, belive me.

What else is going on? Any major life events maybe causing her mood? Is she studying or working? Does she have an expressive outlet eg art, book group? Are you conversing with her or monitoring her?

Drugs can help, but not on their own!

You should never give antidepressants to anyone unless your are a licensed medical doctor and they are your patient and you have diagnosed them with depression or anxiety. They are not meant to be "happy pills" or a quick pick-up. They are for people with clinical disorders.
