Florida is currently breeding the most thoroughbred horses in the United States and I believe they surpassed the KY horse population in the past 3 years or so. Kentucky is still the state where many of the top level thoroughbred racers are now bred but that is changing with every major stallion that is sold to interests outside of this country.

Premium Tap is a recent example of a fine KY bred horse that will not stand at stud in KY. The sheiks and other interests are slowly taking the very best breeding stock with them to Japan and Dubai.

Kentucky has the most EXPENSIVE horses, heck, they practically keep the state going. Yearlings sell for thousands upon thousands, just for having a good pedigree.

Well, seems like it would be Texas. It's the biggest, warmest state in the contiguous United States. Texas is also home to ranches, which usually have horses. [Per ca pita, I think it's... Wyoming?]

The horse capital of the world Kentucky. At least for thoroughbreds, the other breeds don't count though in my mind.
