Maybe the people don't want it. Bermuda overwhelmingly rejected independence in a referendum in 1994. A couple of decades earlier (I think about 1969), Anguilla declared independence from the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla territory, before reverting to British rule as a separate territory at its own request. The one (current) Overseas Territory that looked like it might become independent was Montserrat, but their plans were scuppered when half the island (including its capital) were destroyed when the volcano erupted back in the 1990s. About Argentina conquering the Falkland Islands, no chance! Argentina went bankrupt when its currency collapsed a few years back and has never really recovered. They are in no position to even think about another war. Personally, I don't particularly agree with the status of the British Overseas Territories (or the Crown Dependencies, for that matter) as it's basically colonialism under a different name, and I don't think colonialism has any place in the 21st Century. I think if they are really determined to remain British, they should become more like the French Overseas Departments (French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Reunion - to be joined next year by Mayotte), being treated as basically an extention of the UK mainland. This would include them being given representation in the UK Parliament, and being subject to the same taxes as people on the mainland. But that's just my opinion
