In that time and age a woman had her place which was definitel not warfare tactics or manuevers. Do you really think she heard voices, had divine intervention or simply understood military tactics and manuevers in a time where a woman could not be involved nor respected in regards to military ventures.

SHE believed she heard voices. Joan of Arc was an incredibly brave and courageous young woman. I don't think the 'why' really matters, but the how she carried it out.

She very likely heard voices. She was probably mentally ill. It is likely that people follow her because she was charismatic and people genuinely thought that she heard the voice of the divine.
