I have had a progressing problem with alcohol over the last three years. I went from drinking a glass of wine once or twice a week to about a whole bottle a night. I have been using it as a stress releiver at night. I have become dependent on it like a crutch. I am sick of feeling dependent and ruled by it. I decided to quit and gave myself a short term goal of one week to see how I feel without it. I didn't drink last night and besides feeling a little nervous and apprehensive at the beginning of my normal drinking time (6pm) I felt fine. My sleep was a bit restless though. Can someone who drinks a bottle of wine a night have withdrawls, if so when do they start ? I feel pretty good so far but just wondering if they haven't kicked in yet. Thanks for the advice.

Oh my don't we sound alike!! The effects are minimal, a bit jittery, but not like Dt's. I have been doing the same thing. A little tossing and turning thru the night, but it will subside in about 5 dyas or so. If you need help sleeping thru the night without the alcohol, then get some sominex or Simply sleep, they both are over the counter sleep aids, that do not cause dependency. Good luck to you!!

Yes you can have alcohol withdrawl symptoms. Anytime you abuse alcohol you might face withdrawal symptoms. If you are lucky you may not feel any but since you felt nervous and had trouble sleeping you may have some. It is great that decided to do something about your alcoholism as many people don't get help when they are alcoholics. You are to be applauded for taking the first step to beating this addiction. If you find you can't do it alone then get help.

Boy, I am glad I am not alone. I too progressed to a bottle a nite over time....and felt very much the same way.
I did what someone before me suggested, I bought some over the counter sleeping aids. I take about half a pill about 1/2hr before bedtime.....it is just enough to relax me.
Good luck and if you like let me know how you have faired out.
