There's much more that we don't know or understand. We discover new things everyday. How can someone be SO positive that there is no God? Or devil? Or Heaven or Hell? Is it because you can't see them? Also, many Atheists are so quick to call Christians brainwashed because of what we were taught as children, but the same people put so much faith in what scientists have to say about evolution. There are plenty of educated Christians who are smart enough to know there is something greater than ourselves.

Abby C how arrogant you are. I know God is real because I have a relationship with Him. I never said that aliens don't exist. But we were not created by them. Why are folks always asking someone to prove God exists? That's something you have to settle within yourself. All you have to do is seek Him. Try it. You might find out you really don't know much at all.

Just remember...the scientists in this country very nearly closed down the US patent office in 1903 because according to them, "Everything that could be invented has already been invented."

Ah...the arrogance of ignorance, eh?

As an atheist, I don't believe there is a god. But, if convincing scientific evidence ever presented itself, I would change my belief. The idea of science is that you don't ever know something does not happen, you can only prove that it does.

I can be 99.99% sure there is no god, but I cannot ever get that last little bit to make it a fact.

On the other hand, once I see god or see proof god exists, it will be 100%.

Any scientist who knows 100% something doesn't exist isn't a very good scientist.

There is a difference between being indoctrinated and being educated. Your parents brought you up as a Christian, I'm assuming. But have you even read about any other religion? How can you be so sure that yours is correct? How can you be sure that atheists aren't correct?
No proof. Thats why. I've been browsing this forum for months and I have yet to see someone tell me some valid evidence for the existence of God.
Besides, "greater than ourselves" doesn't always have to mean "God". How do you know that we weren't created by aliens? You don't.

Oh, where do we start here?

"people put so much faith in what scientists have to say about evolution". No, no faith. An evaluation of the evidence.

"How can someone be SO positive that there is no God..." An evaluation of the evidence. Not SO posative, just a very high probability.

"smart enough to KNOW (my capitals) there is something greater than ourselves" How? They don't KNOW, they BELIEVE.

For me personally it is because these stories are so contrary to the flow and harmony of nature - they read like fables and mystical works of fiction. Every culture from ancient Maya to Hindu to obviously Christian has these stories or legends. To believe them in spite of better judgement simply out of fear of eternal damnation is not natural to me - to my core. I love the creator of our universe and feel a debt of gratitude - I just don't connect that emotion to these garbled texts written by different men on every continent. ESPECIALLY since each of these men point to the other guy on the other continent and say "he's going to hell - cause he doensn't believe what I believe".
That's why I made such a personal choice.

Speaking to your comment on Atheists - you cannot compare evolution to religion!!! This is apples and oranges!!!
Evolution is THEORY the accumulation of information based on observations and predictable patterns....
The preacher who looks at evolution for 2 seconds and says "neh - i don't think so" and begins persuading his flock to just stop even trying to build on this theory is being irresponsible and making the same mistakes of bishops or magistrates you read about in European history.

And finally - the reason many of us don't believe in heaven or hell is because we find it sadistic and horrific that our time on earth is some type of melodrama for a intolerant judegmental deity that casually casts human souls into torture for all eternity. See my message above about contradictary to nature.
Such villians do not exist outside of fiction.
The force I believe created the universe is no sadistic villian.

note - how many Christians are just hedging their bets?
In other words - if they are right, heaven!
If they are wrong - it won't matter. That's an unacceptable way for me to lead my life.

Have a great day!

Who's positive?

Anyway, it always comes back to evolution vs. Christianity. Look - you can be both a Christian and a believer in the theory of evolution. There is no conflict. It is not a sin to believe in the theory of evolution.

i still havent seen hard evidence of either, science is a human creation and organized religion is too. God does exist, but his ideas might be different; this planet probably has a half liquid half solid core, but i dont have anything thatll completely prove it

Men's greatest folly, his pride that blinds all reasoning.
How deceitful the heart is and where does one even begin?

It is because of pride that men will not admit that they are wrong.
Evil prospers when the veil that covers a person's eye is not removed because they are not willing to listen ... ...
Some pretend to listen but really do not while others simply fade out/space out.

You misunderstand atheism completely. Science does not say it knows everything, science says there are plausible answers for several matters and there are yet no answers for other matters. This is the crucial thing: Science accepts that there are many questions yet unanswered! Science allows for doubt, discussion, reconsideration, reexamination and so on! Science does not just invent any answers like religion does!

As I continue my education, I realize that so much is unknown. It is a joy to learn, and most fun to know God always protects those who place their trust in God's goodness.
