I won't do any lip tattooing without anesthetic - I use one with epi in it - blue gel because it helps with bleeding - very vascular area and the pain control is great.
If a tattooer has the proper grip and experience, saliva is not an issue at all. Only on rare occasions do lip rolls need to be used along the sides.

I have mine done, I expected it to hurt like crazy but I honestly only felt the vibration of it. Your lip wont be swollen for hours, and you don't have to do anything for aftercare, its a pretty cool tattoo. Oh and you can't taste the ink like some people who don't even have these tattoos say. You will have to get it touched up though, when I got mine done for the first time it faded alot within the first week. Then I got it touched up again and the F and U stayed but not the CK.. so I'm planning on getting it touched up again Good luck!

I've got a prety high pain threshold (and a couple tats) and I cringe at the thought of one there, purely because when I bite my lip there, it almost reduces me to tears, its a pretty sensitive spot. I also haven't seen any there that don't look a bit blurred. Go for it, if you are brave...

I used to work with a guy who tattooed F**k You on the inside of his bottom lip just so he could say "Read my lips " and flash it.... (I know ...stupid) The first time he had it done the ink faded in a couple of months .....He went back and had them redo it deeper....I'm not sure how it held up past that point. Seems like a waste of good ink to me
but that"s just one mans opinion

A girl at my work had the same thing done inside her mouth on her lip. It had been a year since she had done it and when I looked at it, it was faded.....BAD. I didnt know what it said and it looked like a blue vein to me. SHe had it professionally done in blue ink and she figured that it was normal for it to fade so quick. She told me the one on her thigh hurt the worst. I dont know much about tattoos, but I thought I would give ya my opinion...If I was you I would stick to tattoos on your arm or something. lol thanks and take care!

it seems like it may hurt a little more but i have no clue as to how bad it will actually hurt. but it shouldn't take long. your lip is only so big and has only so much room for tattoo right?

yes I have heard lips are extremely painful. I had permanent eyeliner on my eyes and that was painful. This man also does perm. lip color and told me lips were very painful. I'd think about it awhile before I decided.

My ex has the inside of his lip done. He said it didn't hurt any worse than any of the others, and it healed really fast. The downside it that it looks loke crap! Might want to re-think this one!

wow .. tattoo inside lip, you have serious nerve. i would never do that, but my friend`s boyfriend has a tattoo inside his lip, he says it`s harder because your saliva could interfere with the ink getting deep underneath the skin. his facial expression was literally unexplainable when i saw him get it, so i`m guessing it does hurt more than a tattoo that`s placed on the back.
