We had a gataway wedding with us, and our parents. Two weeks after we got back, we had a BBQ at our home for friends and family to celebrate, and showed the DVD of the ceremony. We did have wedding announcements engraved and mailed them out the day we got married, so they were post marked with our destination.

You "know" a lot of people. Who are your closest friends? Do you have close relatives, not the way far away ones? My thought--have a small, only people you and your fiancee' feel close to, that you would feel honored to have at your wedding-there. Maybe set a number of how many people you want there. Two? 16? Maybe, if you want, a chapel wedding. Or, if you really want "small", make arrangement for a judge to marry you-in his office. or maybe in a courtroom, with a few guests. and/or--Only have the two witnesses there. And, if you want a reception, just something small, simple (punch and cake). Maybe some finger sandwhiches. Or, if it's just the two of you and your witnesses, maybe go out to eat at a nice restaurant after the wedding? I wish you the best. Take care.

Elope!! I had the church wedding, but always thought it would be cool to go overseas and get married with some random strangers as your witnesses. One of my close friends got married quietly, only told her parents, and then sent wedding annoucements to everyone. She said she loved getting the phone calls saying "WHAT? You got MARRIED?"

If guest list is your only reason for wanting a quiet wedding, don't worry. You're friends will get over it if you don't invite them all.

invite only close friends and family and have it a casual style wedding. You could have an outdoor ceramony and reception. You could rent a small tent and have someone cater fingerfoods such as chicken wings, meatballs, pigs in a blanket, shrimp coctail, stuffed mushrooms, veggie platters stuff like that easy fun foods. You could even put out a few hot foods after such as baked zitti, Ham and roasted potatos. But make it casual do a buffet. Hire a dj and dance the night away !

How about inviting just a handful of folks your are closest to to a dinner party at your home or favorite restaurant and have a "surprise wedding". Have your license and officiant all lined up, maybe get a videographer to come in and record the shocked expressions of your family and friends when they realize they are at a wedding, not just a dinner party. I think (hope) they will be flattered and overjoyed to be there and you will chuckle for years.

This is what we are doing, and we have around 16 guests, 20 max.

Marriage at the registry office (invites only, close friends and family)

Reception at sister in laws house, we have hired tables and chairs and plan to have a long banquet style setting, everyone around one large table.

After dinner we will play music, chat, drink some champagne cocktails, have a wander around the garden if it's warm enough to do that.

Why don't you have a destination wedding. That way you know damn well only a few people can come. Everyone can enjoy themselves and relax, and it will be more intimate because of the atmosphere.

Elope! We were married on a beach in Maui with just two witnesses. It was (to me) the most intimate and perfect way to share that experience...we brought back DVD's of course!
