Hawkeye has great advise, watch a few races and see who you are drawn to. You can also go to NASCAR.com and look at the drivers bios. Don't just follow one person because that is what every else does...you'd be a typical Jr. fan then. You also don't have to follow just one driver, pick a team to follow or pick someone based on a sponsor.

I've been a NASCAR fan a long time. I usually go with the one who has an interesting interview that day and see what kind of sensitivity/stress he is under. Since there are several that have interviews, one day one might strike you as being in a lousy mood, then the next time he is really in a positive mood. That is when you feel good about watching that certain number. Take like yesterday, how many people before had heard of 72 yr. old JAMES HYLTON---I cheered for that guy in the duals. Usually, though, I'm for #20 Stewart, or #44(old88) Jarrett. So there is usually someone unique to root for.

Watch several races and pick one out. Some folks root more for manufacturers and then pick a driver or two out of that group. Some folks like the smooth drivers while some like the rough gang. There won't be much said on TV about anyone other than the current front runners and Jr. I like Jr., but even I would have to admit, the cameras hang on him a lot (regardless of where he's running). Just take your time and get a feel for the sport.

I personally root for the quite guys. Like Jamie McMurray ( 26-Crown Royal Ford) and Bobby Labonte ( 43-Cheerios Dodge) because they are excellent racers and if they get in a wreck or anything they dont complain they just say next week is another week we will keep going. and they dont blame other people like some of the top named people do because they think they are that good that they can. But like some other people have said watch a few racers see what number you like. not necessarily who wins but who has the best attitude or something unless you like the winner thats always a plus. But anyone you pick NASCAR is a good sport to go with and all the fans are supportive of everybody!

Well you could take 2 approaches to this... you can do what majority of the people do and just pick one of the same old 2 or 3 guys you hear a million things about each day.
Or do what I did and watch for awhile, see what driver might catch your eye. You might learn somethings about a driver that match your own personality. Jamie McMurray has alot of different things in common with me on and off the track.
Find a driver that you can identify with, it will make you a die hard fan in the long run sticking by your driver through thick and thin... not just the good times.
No one can suggest a driver for you to cheer for, it's just something everyone should do themselves.

Depends on your personality and the personality of the driver. Watch a number of races and see how drivers react in different situations. Observe how certain drivers represent the sport they race for. Popular drivers are easy to choose, but do they have real talent, or just good equipment?
I when I was young, about 12, I started getting into NASCAR, and I picked Gordon because he had a cool rainbow car. Since then I've stuck with him because in all the situations he's encountered, he's acted in a very respectable way. That's my story.
Wishing you the best in finding a favorite driver!

Get to know the driver's. Lots work for different charities and causes that might interest you. I like to watch the behind the scenes programs like Beyond the Wheel and Nascar 24/7 7 Days cause you can get to know the driver's and get into their lives. That way you can pick someone that you can feel. Plus I judge the way that they race. Some are down and dirty others are eye for eye and others are respectable in every way.

Go with the most recent champion, Jimmie Johnson. He comes to race, doesn't complain and admits when he makes a mistake. Unfortunately, when you're not a constant point of contention, like Tony Stewart, Dale Jr., Kurt Busch......, you can get overlooked as far as making a contribution to the sport. Jimmie Johnson's integrity alone should be run up the flagpole for all competitors to salute. However, fans, sponsors and NASCAR like the contentious drivers because the sport has been brought to a degree of hokiness with the tracks the race at and silly rules like the "lucky dog" rule. Let's get back to racing.

Pick Juan Paublo Montoya. He is a new driver this year and has won the Indy 500 before. I can see him running up front after a few races!! You both have something in common: you both are new to Nascar!
My favorite is Jeff Gordon, my boyfriend likes Bobby LaBonte, and my son is a Carl Edwards fan

I am a Jr. fan. All i can say is if you like being disappointed then Jr. is the way to go. I would say Denny Hamlin. He doesn't seem to be a flash in the pan like ohh say Carl Edwards.. WHO I ALSO LIKE!!! Tony Stewart isn't going anywhere soon either. I would say if you wanta be a fan of someone, i would go with Hamlin or Stewart.
