I never give up anything. And I've been vegetarian for 10 years, so the whole 'no meat on Friday' thing means nothing for me.

I'm giving up drinking this Lent. For real, even St. Patrick's Day.
I will also give more offering as a result of the money I save from not wasting it on booze.

Since a small child, I've always given up something for Lent.

Sometimes it's something that I really like that I will resume immediately following Easter, and sometimes it's been something that I'm trying to stop and this is a good way to do it.

As for this year, I haven't thought of the perfect thing yet. Maybe hot fudge banana sundaes with crushed walnuts and whipped cream . . . ..

My sister is Catholic, she gives up doughnuts. This was a tradition she started when I was in high school and worked at Krispy Kreme. I brought home doughnuts all the time, and she ate them like it was going out of style, so Lent came and she was like "ooh I have a good one no doughtnuts!"

This year, I'm giving up MySpace and I'm going totally vegan for a few days, no meat, eggs, milk, cheese, clothes made out of wool, etc.

My church suggested we "fast" or give up one meal per week of Lent and donate the money for that meal each week to a local agency in our town that feeds the homeless.

"Lent" began as weeping for Tammuz.See Exekiel 8:14. Why would anyone participate?

Try following the REAL fasting rule: no oil, meat, fish, eggs, or dairy for the WHOLE 40 days, plus you eat only one meal a day. That's what the Orthodox still do, so don't get too cocky about your vegetarianism.
