All day long today I have been needing to use the bathroom, and every single time I get up and look there is blood in the toilet and when I wipe. Keep in mind this is only coming from my butt...and I have low back pain. I don't know what this could be, but I would hate to take a trip to the ER if I don't need to. My doctor is very hard to see since he is so busy so the ER is the only option I really have. What do you think this could be, and is it serious? Also, should I go to the ER just in case?

This is not something to just ignore. It could be a lot of things from a hemoroid to colon cancer. Hemoroids can be serious. The lower back pain is of concern. It suggests that there may be something going on further up the pipe so to speak. Get yourself to the doctor. I can't believe your doctor wouldn't try to fit you in tomorrow in such a situation. Perhaps there is an Urgent Care Clinic nearby. They are usually cheaper than the ER but at least you can see a DR.

You must deffintly go see a doctor even the ER if your regular doctor is not available. Its pretty serious if your bleeding and having to use the restroom a lot. Its a good chance you have some sort of infection or it could be something really serious.

Dont go to the ER! Unless you have insurance, you'll be charged an enormous amount of money!

I say call your doctors office and ask to speak with the TRIAGE nurse. You can explain your symptoms to the triage nurse, and they will make the decision as to what you should do. Even if your doctor is too busy to see, there should be another doctor available. Don't be afraid to see a different doc; they deal with so many different types of health problems that this shouldn't even faze them!

If the blood is bright red - similar to blood if you cut your finger for example then that's less of a worry as it suggests there is a superficial injury. If however the blood is dark and clotted, almost jelly like, then you need to get to ER right away as this indicates internal bleeding and is far more serious.

Why not check into ER. You might have some sort of infection/virus that might starting to affect your liver. Perhaps drink heaps of fluid, prefer water to try and wash out the infection. But best head for ER if your doctor is fully booked.

Good luck.

If the blood you are seeing is bright red it could be you are tearing yourself when you go to the bathroom. Could it be that your bowel movement is a lot harder or larger than usual? If so, then this could be causing the tearing. It also could be that you have hemorrhoids and when you are going they may be rupturing a little and causing this. If you have to have blood in the stool, bright red is always better than dark red. Call the doc and make an appointment.

It's probably just a hemorrhoid. Use wet wipes (I.E. the kind used on small children) with Witch Hazel (a cleansing liquid) on them to cure this problem. Preparation H works well, too.

In all likelyhood, this isn't a serious problem. Unless you're losing a large ammount of blood from it, you don't have anything to worry about.

You don't need to go to the ER, but you should get an appointment with your doctor and tell him about it.
