Why can't I read pdf files on my pc? All I get is a square with 3 shapes in top left corner.?

I've downloaded adobe but still can't get to read anything.

Are the PDF files trying to open in Adobe Acrobat? Have you tried opening Acrobat then using File > Open ... and trying to open the file?

If that works then there might be a file association issue.
