Let's say you don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend and you're not married, don't you guys agree that Valentine's day is just another heavily commercialized holiday? I don't get the point of picking a specific day to show you love someone, it's ridiculous in my opinion.

I don't like Valentine's day because I never have a boyfriend to share it with. Every year on Valentine's day I think maybe next year I'll get to drink wine and have a romantic dinner but I never get it. It's such a let down. Why pick just one day to tell the person you love how wonderful they are. You should do that all the time not just on certain days. It is a very commercialized holiday that can bring many feelings to the surface such as love or loneliness that seems as though it will never end. I know that I'll find that special person someday and get all that I desire in my relationship. I haven't given up yet.

I agree, Valentine's Day causes a lot of people a load of unhappiness. If you have a boyfriend and he doesn't do anything then you feel bad, if you don't give them something another negative and on. If you have no one special at the time it causes angst. One needs perspective about these things and it is always a good thing to show someone you care regardless of the calendar or holiday significance. Besides who needs a red heart full of calorie laden chocolates right after dieting since New Year? with the horrific weather in the Mid West and East florist trucks cannot even deliver. So Bah Humbug. Valentine's Day is probably based on some old pagan mating ritual or something.
So I agree.

I abhor this day, and not just because I'm "unattached" this year. I have spent V-Day both as an attached and an unattached person, and almost always it has been a disappointment.

If you're unattached, it's just another commercialized attempt to make singles feel pathetic because they don't have someone buying them a tacky teddy bear and a gas station rose. If you happen to be attached, it's anything but enjoyable - it's downright stressful: for the guy who's afraid he won't provide the 'perfect' gift or the 'perfect' evening, and for the girl because she didn't get a gift as expensive and 'perfect' as her friend, co-worker, etc.

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy someone something for V-Day, but the best tokens of love and affection are the spontaneous ones. It meant more to me when a guy got me something for no reason in particular than when he did it because perhaps he felt obligated because it was V-Day.

I'll be so glad when this day is over. The media has been cramming Cupid down my throat all day!

I totally agree with you. I feel that you should love and cherish your significant other 365 days a year not just on Valentine's Day. It would be nice if more couples or people for that matter could focus more on what it takes to make a relationship work then romantic love all the time. To make a relationship work, you need to give it time, devotion, respect, warmth and understanding. That to me is real love not this commercial crap.

Yes, you have a good point. I have been single for 3 years. Never have been married and have no kids. V-Day is, to me, just another wednesday this year. I am at work and nothing really new is going to occur today. In the past I have spent up to $300 for dinner and gifts. Now, looking back - it was not worth it obviously since I am single. My singlehood is by choice, and V-day is just another day for the candy companies, flower companies, diamond companies, and restaurants to increase the cost of their product another 20 to 30%

You are right that it is commercialized, and that people who care about one another should most assuredly not show it or express it on just this one day, however I don't see that as a reason to "hate" or dislike Valentine's.

As a single I either treat it as just another day,or celebrate my love for my friends. Today a my best girlfriend's boyfriend brought me flowers, candy, a balloon, and card (from each of them) and 2 of my good guy friends are taking me to dinner tonight. My Mom send me a card and candy.

I'm single but I definitely feel loved. ☺

search up valentines day because it's much more than that. Valentines day is to celebrate the death of St. Valentine, who married people in secret against the king's wishes, and got beheaded. I am single, but I hope I can win my love's heart this year!!! ^_^
The problem is that she doesn't care for Valentines Day.. ^_^;

i agree i have a boyfriend but in my opinion they just chose a saints name that had something to do with love and prostitutuded it to be a holiday love should be a spontaneus thing not a sceduled day . do you really think st valentine really wanted us to give each other candy to show our love for one another it is the most obnoxious holiday we celebrate

its not on of my favorite holidays either, and I think that most holidays are to commercialized now. You know I personally feel that if a man treats me like crap most of the time and runs out on Feb. 14 and buys me candy and flowers it being a hypocrite love me and be good to me 365 days a year and that doesn't cost a thing, and I will reward you with my love, honesty, loyalty, and respect, and share my heart, soul, and body with you.
