Russia has the 3rd fastest growing economy on earth behind China and India. It has the 2nd largest stockpile of nuclear weapons ( I reckon it has more than the US but keeps them on a need to know basis ), the largest number of tanks ( 28000 ), massive army and airforce. Its navy is a bit crap.

It is most definately a superpower and the one country that makes the US absolutely sh!t itself

The US and Russia holds the most nuclear and chemical weapons then any other country in the world. This is the most important treaty made to save this planet earth. The Russians as well as the Americans has used great restraint on use for these weaponry. Each countries arsenal could take out this entire planet. If you are looking for emerging superpower I would definitely consider China more then any other country, or even Middle Eastern sovereign nations.

Russia is not a superpower. Russia has 20-100 times lesser money then the USA and just 140 million people. Russian science is trying to reappear but it will be not easy because large part of russian clever people work for western companies for larger money. But Russia has status of nuclear country from Soviet Union. It also has Putin with wish to create balance, multipolarity in Russia and in the World. And Russia has many people with strange mentality, people who search not for money and status but for thruth. So in decision of future of the world Russia may play significant role. Beacause there may be such situation like in parliament:(figuratively)
go this way - 48%(West)
go that way - 48%(East)
go ??? way - 4%(Russia)

Russia used to be one, when it was a part of the Soviet Union. Today Russia is an underdeveloped nation. There is only one Superpower in the world today, The US. If the European Union or China were to better integrate and achieve higher levels of output and development they may be able to play a larger role in world politics and become a Superpower.

the usa is a superpower because of its military. we have a strong economy but it is not growing. russia used to have a good military but now it is mainly concerned on growing economically. russia has a vast amount of natural resources which they can export to build their wealth. face the facts a strong economy, education, and technology is going to determine superpower status in the future and the usa is in a trillion dollar debt with a poor public education system. have you noticed that your computer programmer is from india?
