"First, you didn't come from a monkey and evolution doesn't say you did."
------------------------

!

I know evolution is a big topic, but I thought the main thing was the theory that we evolved from apes...

I'm confused now.

Common ancestor Doug. You must have seen. Modern humans and apes had a common ancestor.

Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure that after about ten people saying it, you should know the answer. I have a feeling you're going to ignore them/this question when you read their answers.

We evolved from a common ancestor. Most people are like "Monkeys giving birth to a human? Thats ridiculous!" Yes it is ridiculous and evolution doesn't claim anything of the sort. Go ahead and take the quote out of context and try and twist the words around to get another "thought provoking" question. Think of monkeys as sort of a second or third cousin. Their distant ancestors are also our distant ancestors. I'm no expert, so if you want real answers go to the biology section on here or better yet the biology section of your local library.

Apes are not monkeys. They're completely different divisions of primates.

Humans are a type of ape (biologically speaking, even if people get offended at seeing themselves as a type of animal).

The ancestor we share with other true apes would also have been "ape like", if not a true ape.

The ancestor we share not only with apes but also with monkeys would bave been both "ape-like" but also "monkey-like". It would have been a primate, but you'd be struggling to call it either a true ape or a true monkey.

There are probably two reasons you're confused:

1. People are reluctant to consider humans as apes.

2. The classification systems keep changing.

We didn't come from monkeys. They are like our cousins. A few hundred thousand years ago, there were creatures that were smart and hairy and RESEMBLED the apes of today. They had kids. Some of the kids moved and needed to be smart and outthink their opponents-and being able to walk upright helped. Other kids were just fine being really hairy and less intelligent. The smart kids had kids of their own. Their stupid kids died before they got the chance to pass down their genes, leaving smart genes in the family. Over time, these guys kept improving until they officially became us. The hairy, not-so-smart crew had kids too-kids who weren't strong and tough died, ensuring that only good, strong genes got passed to the next generation. These kids and grandkids and great-grand-kids became the primates we share our world with. We both came from a common ancestor, but we evolved separately into different species. We didn't come from modern apes.

evolution is a confusing topic in the first place. we didnt come from the monkey. we evolved from the ape, so did the monkey. so the monkey is like a cousin or brother or sometiming.

thats kind of close to the truth dont go for sure by it

You assume we evolved from the very monkeys or apes you see, huh? We came from the same ancestor. That does not mean the monkeys or apes you see today are our ancestors. Its pretty obvious that evolution holds some truth to you since you cant falsify it with facts.

It's ok, a lot of people make that mistake.

We didn't evolve from apes... human beings and apes evolved from a common ancestor.

If you and your cousin share many of the same alleles, would be correct for you to say you evolved from him?

It seems to make more sense to say you share "a common ancestor"... Maybe a grandmother?

We did not "come from" monkeys or apes, we share a common ancestor, implied by similar DNA.

You are wrong. Modern primates evolved from a primitive primate ancestor.

As I learned it in biology, evolution does not say we came from apes. It says that both apes and humans have an ancient common hominid type ancestor.

hope that helps
