Morality should come from the social values, ties, and traditions we develop throughout our lifetimes, not from fear of punishment, or hope of reward.

You are so right, Dreamer girl.
The questions on her (as well as the logic) suggesting that the only reason people are good is because if they're not they'll go to hell, or miss a reward in heaven, show a real ignorance of human nature as well as the role of religion.
I have reminded a few such people that there are places in the world where Christianity is non-existent but there are many very good and honorable people, such as in Tibet, home of the Dali Lama.
I'm glad you recognize that, and live a good life just because you are a good person, not because of uncertain promises of some future punishment or reward.

I agree with you on that one.
Also, a healthy brain-heart combination is a good thing too.
I believe God gave man the understanding of right and wrong inherently, so that if they didnt hear of any religions theyd still manage fine.

Parents are the most immediate source of morality. Much to the Church's dislike.

It all comes from the basic instinct to survive and continue the species. All morals can be traced back to this. We become immoral when we let our instinct to survive outweigh our instinct to protect the species.

My family; morality was passed to me from my relatives who came before me. Morality was instilled in me and I live up to it. Some very fine, moral people are my heritage.

Law is both moral and immoral, both good and evil.
Grace is only moral, only good, and also immortal.
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
