You don't have to be mean to him. But you need to be honest with him about your feelings. Tell him that you had really liked him alot at one point but that now it just doesn't seem that way. It sounds like you are kind of young (still in school). Let him down gently. Tell him that you just don't share his feelings and that you feel that the best thing you can do is be honest with him. That while you don't like him the way he likes you still care about him and respect him, so it would probably be best ending your relationship now before anyone gets hurt too much. The most important thing to do is to give him the respect that he would give you if the roles were reversed. Then, don't make negative comments about how annoying he is to your friends or his. Let him have his dignity or it will only make the pain of losing you worse. In the end, he will learn to respect the fact that you were at least honest with him.

Just tell him.
Think about how you would feel if you were dating someone that you really liked but the didn't have feelings for you at all. How would you feel? With each day that goes by, your only making him attatched to you more. Ending it now would be better for both of you. Stringing him along is wasting both of your time.

Well if you dont like him then just break it off already. Why are you going to lead him on when he can be with someone who actually likes him. But yeah you have to tell him that you dont like him and why!

try breaking it to him slowely calmly and being careful where you tread tell him how you feel your sorry but that it just cant work. you need to tell him before he starts getting more and more serious. if he asks why don't say its coz he bugs you because he might take it the wrong way

Tell him the same way you would like to be told if roles were reversed. Which I am thinking would be face-to-face, honestly and as kindly as possible.

Open your mouth and engage your vocal chords and tell him you don't see this going anywhere, that you aren't interested in a relationship with him.
