Did veterans fight for Christianity? No

They fought for independence
We love independence
Therefore we celebrate Veterans' Day

Very few people like wars, but most of us acknowledge that there is a need for our nation to defend itself against those who would take away the freedoms our forefathers and foremothers fought so hard to establish. Veterans Day and Memorial Day are great opportunities to honor those who served in the military to protect our country and those cherished freedoms. Veterans Day is for living veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who have died.

As we all know that you know very well, atheists cherish freedom, just as others do. Some have argued that we have a greater appreciation for one of those freedoms--freedom of religion--than our neighbors of faith.

As for there being "no atheists in foxholes"--that old assumption has been proven untrue by the many men and women who have served their countries with honor without having a belief in supernatural beings.

Hmmm, does that mean that I wouldn't have to go into a foxhole if I were in the military? Do they now just refuse to let atheists in foxholes to keep the old saying alive?

We should celebrate keeping people alive rather than the fact that our nation willfully sent them to their deaths.

If I were in a foxhole, there would be an atheist in a foxhole. And I served my country. So I do celebrate Veteran's Day. Thanks for asking.

as far as I know veterans day has nothing to do with religion, it's about giving respect to those who fought in war. As far as I know, athiest don't deny the existance in war, so I don't see why they wouldn't. It's personal choice though.
the saying "no athiest in foxholes" isn't pointing fingers at athiests about not being involved in war, it's more pointing to the fact that a lot of people will suddenly get religious when they feel they're about to die. It's more poking fun at people that seem to be athiest and are proud of it who, when they're near death, get down and pray.

No. Its not a celebration, its a mourning, a reminder how human beings feel violence and war can solve a problem...modern day sacrifice to the God under the guise of morality and righteousness.

bettierag...you know something Doll Face, seeing you there with your raven hair, full-pouting lips and magic smile makes me think of the good old days - you know exactly what I mean, those warm summer nights in the country we shared in our youth. I can still feel the magic.
