You should do what you can to apologize, in any way possible- letter, in person, phone call, or even talking to a head stone if the landlord has passed.

Not forgiving yourself is like being stuck in time. You will never be able to grow or move on with your life unless you do forgive yourself. It is also a lot like giving up. You cannot let this incident control who you are today. You've done everything you can to make amends. You may always be sorry for what you have done, but you are passed it enough to realize that you are able to learn from your mistake, so that it didn't continue to lead you down a deeper path. Realize that it was also a learning experience for the person on the other end. They too, have to learn to move on and learn to forgive you. If they do not forgive you, they are only doing a disservice to themselves, getting stuck in time as well. If they do not forgive you, you can't let that affect how you live your life every day.

You have to move on because you must. Everyone must play the hand that they're dealt. No matter how crappy it may be, do the best you can with what you have becuase that shows that you tried and kept going no matter how hard it got. Never compare yourself with others. Remind yourself that you're growing and learning with everything you do.

You're going to need professional help with this. Arrange to see a psychologist. 30 years is long enough, don't you agree?

Maybe you were morbid to begin with and didn't know it until you tried to draw blood.

Stay away from knives, guns, yourself, etc. and you'll be fine.
