I am 14, lately I have been playing chopan's prelude in c minor. It has very large stretches that require you to hit very hard to get them to sound right. I have been playing this song for about 2 weeks. Today when I was writing poetry, my wryst and fore arm started to hurt very badly. At first I thought it was just a cramp and cuntinued writing my poem. Later when I was practicing piano my hand hurt in the same way, I feal the same pain when I type with this hand or use it. I am typing with my left hand and my right and is in a brace. if you could tell me what you think this is it would help me out.

It's kind of difficult to answer this without being able to ask you more questions... I had tendonitis in my right wrist which is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome, and it was excruciatingly painful - a very painful kind of sharp ache which felt like it radiated from right inside my arm (not like a scratch or cut which kind of hurts on the surface)... however, this is not to say that this is what you are suffering with, just a description to maybe compare it to...

I would keep it in the brace, move it as little as possible and go and see your family doctor - they will be able to take a look and feel and should be able to tell you for sure. My doctor told me right away and I started a course of physiotherapy which helped a LOT.

Good luck - hopefully it's not too bad and you'll be playing the piano again in no time (o:

I have had carpal tunnel surgery in both hands, as well as tendinitis. The way to prevent carpal tunnel is to keep your wrists straight, never never never bend your wrists back when typing, or doing any repetitive movement, because that puts pressure on the carpal tunnel. Putting your hand in a brace can also aggravate the carpal tunnel if the brace is putting pressure on the carpal tunnel area. The forearm has nothing to do with carpal tunnel. I highly recommend seeing a good sports medicine doctor, or a doctor who specializes in repetitive motion injuries. If you let a repetitive motion injury get bad enough it could be with you for the rest of your life.

I had an EMG , when I complained of wrist pain . The neurologist , who did the test , told me I had a problem in my neck , that the pain in my wrists was secondary to cervical problems . He referred me to a neurosurgeon , and I had a procedure called Anterior Cervical Diskectomy Fusion . This was in March . My neck still hurts like hell , and I still am awaiting surgery on both my wrists . So , not to bore you any longer , but , you should ask your primary care provider to show you the EMG rsults , it may show a bigger problem . God bless , and good luck .

If you would like to learn how to avoid surgery and regain the pain free movement you should have read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook which teaches about muscles, pain and referred pain. And most importantly what to do.
