It's not as simple as counting the wedding hours and multiplying by the weddings. Some are making the six figures, sure. Some really high echelon photographers who shoot celebrity weddings make an extremely comfortable living

There is a pretty big amount of overhead involved with successful wedding photography, particularly in new equipment investment, programming, computers, etc etc. Also, digital photography by the masses is hurting the mid-range wedding photographer. People think, why should I pay a professional $3000 for a few hours work, when Uncle Bob has a nice, new Canon Rebel?

It is getting harder to make a living at this, especially when you're just getting started.

I got married in the SF Bay Area about 2 years ago. We talked with alot of photographers. The average quote was between $2500-3000 for 4 hours of wedding coverage. I guess you could just multiply that by how many weddings a year you are going to photograph.

I agree with Ara57. Like all fields of photography it all depends on how hard you bust your **** and how impressive and origonal your work is. My cousin's wedding photographer got $400, but some bastards can earn three grand a day.
